Trauma Therapy Center

Trauma Counseling Services

Research shows that the effects of a traumatic childhood or adult experience can be long lasting and cause social, emotional, and cognitive dysfunction. These changes can lead to unhealthy, high risk behaviors such as:

  • substance abuse
  • criminal offenses
  • self-harming behaviors
  • sexual promiscuity and
  • poor relationship choices.

At Ranch Hands Rescue, through our innovative trauma counseling programs, we seek to intervene to change understanding, which in turn changes the way we think, this then changes our perspective and eventually this all works to change these outcomes.

Our animals and therapists understand the hypervigilance that accompanies a traumatic experience, which includes a chronic condition like Autism Spectrum Disorder. The mutually unique way of seeing the world, that is shared by our animals and those with ASD, allows clients with Autism to form a relationship without judgement or expectation. It is a rare connection, and it is within such a connection that healing happens.

Therapeutic Center Programs

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)

At its core, EMDR enables emotionally distressed people to recover from the symptoms of their trauma much more quickly than previous psychotherapies available. One study showed that after three 90-minute sessions, 84 – 90% of single-trauma victims no longer manifested post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms.

Equine & Animal Assisted Counseling (EAAC)

EAAC is a psychotherapy that helps emotionally hurting individuals build a relationship with a horse or other animal to bring about transformation and healing. We are the only non-profit EAAC program in the country that focuses only on mental health counseling; partners children with abused and neglected animals; and uses only Licensed Professional Counselors with advanced specialty training and certifications.
